About this digital tool

The pension system in Albania is based on contributions made on gross salary (24.5% in total: 15% paid by the employer and 9.5% by the employee). A full pension requires at least 35 years of contributions; a partial pension is available from 15 years. This calculator estimates your expected pension from your work history and current legislation.

The figures are guidance only. Confirm your contribution history and the current rules with the social insurance institute before making retirement plans.

  1. Enter your current age.
  2. Enter your total years of contributions.
  3. Enter your average gross salary (or net).
  4. Enter the age you plan to retire.

Frequently asked questions

How many years of work do I need for a full pension?

35 years of contributions for a full pension. Between 15 and 35 years gives a partial pension in proportion. Under 15 years you do not qualify for a contributory pension.

How is the pension calculated?

The estimate combines a base amount with a supplement based on your years of contributions and average salary. The maximum is roughly 75% of average gross salary. Check the current base amount with the social insurance institute, because it changes over time.

Can I receive my pension abroad?

Yes. Albania has bilateral social security agreements with several countries, such as Italy and Turkey. Years worked abroad may count under these agreements.
