About this digital tool
An income tax calculator estimates the personal income tax (TAP) you pay on salary or other income. Albania uses progressive brackets: income up to 30,000 lek per month is taxed at 0%, the part between 30,000 and 200,000 lek at 13%, and the part above 200,000 lek at 23%. Each rate applies only to its own band, so the top rate does not apply to your whole income. The tool shows the total tax, the effective rate (the average share of income paid as tax) and the amount that remains after tax. It is useful for employees who want to understand a payslip, for people negotiating a raise and for accountants. The result is a guide based on the brackets entered; check the current thresholds with the tax administration at tatime.gov.al.
How to use
- Enter your monthly taxable income, usually the amount after social and health contributions.
- Check that the bracket thresholds shown match the rules you want to test.
- Read the total tax, the effective rate and the amount left after tax.
Frequently asked questions
How is progressive income tax calculated?
Income is split into bands by threshold. Each band is multiplied by its own rate (0%, 13% or 23%), and the amounts are added together. Only the part that crosses a threshold is taxed at the higher rate.
How much tax do I pay on a 100,000 lek salary?
As an example, the first 30,000 lek are taxed at 0% and the remaining 70,000 lek at 13%, which gives about 9,100 lek of tax. In practice the tax is calculated after contributions, so use the net salary calculator for the exact figure.
Why is my effective rate lower than 23%?
Because 23% applies only to the part above the top threshold. The first band is at 0% and the middle band at 13%, so the average across all income is much lower than the top rate.
