About this digital tool
The time duration calculator shows how many hours and minutes pass from a start time to an end time, with the option to deduct a break. The result is given in hours and minutes, in decimal hours and in total minutes.
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the tool understands you have passed midnight, so 22:00 → 06:00 gives 8 hours. Decimal hours are handy for pay: 8 hours 30 minutes is 8.5 hours. It is used for work shifts, meetings, class hours, travel and any case where you need the difference between two times on the same or different days.

Frequently asked questions
What if the end time is the next day?
If the end is earlier than the start, the calculator assumes it passes midnight and adds 24 hours automatically.
How is the duration between two times calculated?
The start time is subtracted from the end time. For example, 09:00 to 17:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes, or 8.5 decimal hours.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. For example, 45 minutes is 0.75 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 hours.
Does it work for night shifts that pass midnight?
Yes. When the end time is earlier than the start time, the tool treats it as the next day.
