About this digital tool
The tile calculator finds how many tiles you need for a room, bathroom or kitchen, taking into account the room's dimensions, the tile size and a waste percentage. Enter the width and length of the room in metres, the tile size in cm and choose waste of 5%, 10% or 15%.
The calculation is simple: the room's area is increased by the waste percentage and divided by the area of one tile, then rounded up. The tool also gives the adhesive in kg (5 kg per m²) and the grout in kg (0.3 kg per m²). It suits people renovating a home who want to order tiles in one go, without running short or having too many.

- Enter the width and length of the room in metres.
- Enter the width and length of one tile in centimetres.

Frequently asked questions
How much adhesive is needed for tiles?
It depends on the size: 30×30 tiles: ~4–5 kg/m²; 60×60: ~5–6 kg/m². Uneven surfaces need more.
How many tiles are needed for a 4 × 5 metre room?
The room is 20 m². With 60 × 60 cm tiles (0.36 m² each) and 10% waste, about 62 tiles are needed. Enter your own dimensions in the tool for the exact result.
How much waste should I choose for tiles?
For rectangular rooms with straight laying, 5–10% is often enough. For diagonal laying or rooms with many corners choose 15%, because cuts use more material.
How is the amount of tile adhesive calculated?
The tool multiplies the room's area by 5 kg per m². It is a general estimate; read the instructions on the adhesive bag, because it depends on its type and on the tile.
