About this digital tool

The flooring calculator helps you find how many square metres of laminate, parquet or other flooring material to buy for a room. Enter the width and length, choose the waste (5%, 10% or 15%) and, if you like, the price per m² to see the total cost.

The net area is width × length. The tool adds the waste percentage for cuts and mistakes, and rounds up to boxes assuming about 2.5 m² per box. A 10% waste allowance is common, while for diagonal laying or a herringbone pattern choose 15%. The tool serves homeowners, fitters and anyone comparing prices before buying.

How to use

  1. Enter the width and length of the room in metres.
  2. Choose the waste percentage: 5%, 10% or 15%.
  3. Optionally enter the price per m² to see the cost.
  4. Read the area with waste, the number of boxes and the estimated cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra material is needed for waste?

For straight laying: 5–10% extra. For diagonal or patterned laying: 10–15%. Rooms with many corners need more.

How many square metres of laminate should I buy for a room?

Calculate the area (width × length) and add 5–15% waste. For a 4 × 5 m room with 10% waste you need 22 m². The tool does this automatically.

How many square metres are in a box of laminate?

It depends on the manufacturer, because boxes vary. The tool uses 2.5 m² per box as an indicative value; check the label of the product you will buy and divide the total by the box's real area.

How is the cost of the flooring calculated?

Enter the price per m² in the relevant field. The tool multiplies it by the area with waste included, not the net area, because you pay for the extra material anyway.
