About this digital tool
The grade average (GPA) calculator works out the weighted average of grades by ECTS credits or subjects. Enter the grade for each subject on the 4–10 scale and, if you know them, the credits; add as many rows as you need and see the average and total credits.
The weighted average is the sum of the grades multiplied by the credits divided by the sum of the credits. If you don't fill in credits, the tool treats all subjects with a weight of 1 and gives the simple average. Grades with a value of zero or blank are not counted. It is useful for students who want to track progress during the semester, prepare scholarship applications or plan what grade they need in the remaining subjects.
How to use
- Enter the grade for each subject (4–10).
- Optional: add the credits/ECTS for each.
- See the weighted average and the total credits.
Frequently asked questions
How is the weighted average calculated?
Each grade is multiplied by its credits; the sum is divided by the total credits. E.g. 9×6 + 7×4 = 82; 82 ÷ 10 = 8.2.
What if I don't know the credits?
Leave the credit fields blank — each subject gets a weight of 1 and the simple average comes out.
What is the difference between a simple and a weighted average?
In a simple average every subject has the same weight, while in a weighted one subjects with more credits count for more. If you leave the credits blank, the tool gives the simple average.
How is the weighted average calculated with an example?
A grade of 9 with 6 credits and a grade of 7 with 4 credits give (9×6 + 7×4) ÷ 10 = 8.2. The tool does this for as many subjects as you add.
