About this digital tool
The term deposit calculator shows how much money you will receive at maturity when you leave a sum in the bank for a set period at a fixed interest rate. Enter the amount, the annual rate, the term (3, 6, 12, 24 months or more) and the compounding frequency, and the tool gives the interest earned and the final value. If interest is compounded, the sum grows slightly more than with simple interest.
It is useful for comparing offers between banks in Albania and Kosovo and for choosing between terms or currencies. Remember to compare the rate with inflation: if the interest is lower, purchasing power falls. The result is an estimate and does not account for tax on interest under the law in force.
How to use
- Enter the deposit amount and the annual rate.
- Choose the term and the compounding frequency.
- See the maturity amount and the interest earned.
Frequently asked questions
Can I withdraw my money before maturity?
Usually yes, but with a penalty (partial or total loss of interest). Terms vary by bank.
Deposit or investment fund — which is better?
A deposit offers safety and a fixed rate. Funds have higher return potential but also risk of loss. It depends on your tolerance for risk.
How is term deposit interest calculated?
The amount is multiplied by the annual rate and by the time in years; with compounding, each period's interest is added to the principal. For 500,000 lek at 3% for one year, simple interest is 15,000 lek.
How long should I leave the deposit?
The term is set by the bank and by your need for liquidity. Longer terms usually offer a higher rate, but the money is locked up.
What happens if I withdraw the deposit before maturity?
Many banks apply a penalty or a lower interest rate. Read the contract before opening the deposit, especially if you might need the money.
