About this digital tool

The brick calculator finds how many bricks or blocks you need to build a wall, together with the mortar required. Choose the type (standard brick, Porotherm, concrete block or Ytong block), enter the length and height of the wall and the number of openings with the area of each.

The net area of the wall is length × height minus the openings. It is then multiplied by the pieces per m² (50 for standard brick, 8 for Porotherm, 12 for concrete block, 8 for Ytong) and 5% is added for breakages. The tool also gives the kg of mortar and the 50 kg bags. It helps when planning a partition wall, a fence or a house, so you buy the right material the first time.

How to use

  1. Choose the type of brick or block.
  2. Enter the length and height of the wall in metres.
  3. Enter the number of openings (doors, windows) and the area of each in m².
  4. Read the number of bricks, the net area, the kg of mortar and the bags.

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks are needed for 1 m² of wall?

Standard brick (25×12×6.5 cm): ~50 pieces/m² (single-brick wall). Concrete blocks (40×20×20 cm): ~12–13 pieces/m².

How is the number of bricks for a wall calculated?

Find the area of the wall (length × height), subtract doors and windows and multiply by the number of bricks per m² of the chosen type. The tool does this and adds 5% spare.

What is the difference between bricks and blocks in the calculation?

Blocks are bigger, so fewer pieces are needed per m². In the tool standard brick is counted at 50 pieces/m², while Porotherm and Ytong at 8 pieces/m².

Is the bricklaying mortar calculated too?

Yes, for each type the tool takes a mortar rate per m² and gives the total kg and the number of 50 kg bags, with the same 5% spare. It is an estimate; real consumption depends on the bricklayer's work.
